Movies Like Catch Me If You Can

If you've ever wondered about the similarities between a true crime story and a comedy, you may be interested in a movie called Catch Me If You Can. The movie is based on the true story of an expert con artist, Frank Abignale Jr. He defrauded millions of dollars from a wide range of people, often leaving no trace once the FBI began home in on him. The movie, released in 2009, features Tom Cruise and Doug Liman, as well as a number of other talented film makers.

Tom Cruise

You might associate Tom Cruise with action films, but he is remarkably good in character dramas. Barry Levinson's Rain Man is one of the most moving films Cruise has ever starred in, and it won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. He plays Charlie Babbitt, a man who discovers that his father has left him an inheritance, and he races to claim it. Along the way, they form a bond over their shared family history.

One of his best-known movies is Top Gun, which starred Tom Cruise as an elite U.S. Navy flight school student. It received an acclaimed five-minute standing ovation when it opened in theaters. It reminded audiences that Tom Cruise can still deliver a great performance in action movies. The newest Tom Cruise movie, Maverick, has also been a box office hit.

Doug Liman

If you want to watch a movie that will leave you breathless, look no further than Doug Liman. The director of some of the best action movies of the last few decades has teamed up with Tom Cruise for American Made. Based on the true story of CIA operative Barry Seal, the film tells the tale of how he turns from an everyday pilot to an agent who spies for the CIA, but ultimately ends up playing two sides against one another while running drugs for the Medellin cartel.

The film is a blend of action and satire with Tom Cruise and Gary Spinelli. It's impossible to resist the chemistry between the two leading stars. Doug Liman also helmed American Made, a fast-paced thriller that follows a former TWA pilot who becomes a CIA contractor. He winds up training an illegal right-wing Nicaraguan army and trafficking drugs for Pablo Escobar.

The Bourne Identity

Although it has a familiar plotline, The Bourne Identity succeeds in bringing the genre new life. Its pacing is tight and enjoyable throughout, and it avoids the common traps of busy or boring filmmaking. The action sequences are confidently executed, and Matt Damon is excellent as the titular character. Franka Potente gives solid, gutsy support. Chris Cooper makes for fun screentime, and Clive Owen gets a small cameo in the film. Brian Cox is also a good actor.

The first in a series of Matt Damon action thrillers, The Bourne Identity is based on a novel by Robert Ludlum. The film is tightly woven between intense action, mystery, and romance. It follows the adventures of a man named Jason Bourne, a sleuth with retrograde amnesia, who sets out to uncover his true identity and find out why several shadow groups want him dead.

Ocean's Eleven

Many of the heist movies from the 2000s have similar themes to "Oceans Eleven." Steven Soderbergh and Ted Griffin co-wrote the script for this heist comedy. Some of the other films that have similar themes include The Nice Guys, King's Man, Thief, and V/h/s. The movie also features some of the best actors from the 1970s.

The plot of Ocean's Eleven revolves around an eleven-member gang's attempt to rob a casino in under 24 hours. The actors and actresses play different roles. Each one of them is a member of the gang and follows certain rules and guidelines to succeed. These elements all serve to make the film similar to Catch Me If You Can in disguise. The movie went on to become the fifth highest grossing movie of 2001, and it has since spawned two sequels.
